Epilogue

About 2 years later

“Happy birthday, baby!” I squealed as I unveiled the cake that I’d made the day before. It was pink and covered in princess crowns and llamas, her two favorite things. I had a small slice already cut and set to the side for her. As I placed the slice of cake in front of her, Perri could barely wait to mash her chubby little fists into it, squeezing the frosting out through her fingers as she tried to shove it in her mouth.

“Looks like she’s got a sweet tooth just like you, Princess,” Knox said as he came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist. His lips danced along the line of my neck, making me shiver as I watched our little girl devour her cake. Her big eyes looked up at us, the rich dark brown captivating me as it always did, while her auburn hair curled around her cute little ears. Her cheeks were always a little pink and so chubby I couldn’t resist kissing them as much as possible. Her thick line of lashes was enough to make anyone jealous while grown women paid to obtain pouty lips such as hers. Her cute little button nose was to die for.

I loved everything about her more than I’d ever dreamed I could. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my mates with every fiber of my being, but my love for my child? It was transcendent. It was beyond anything I’d ever thought possible, like someone had taken my heart from my chest and let it walk around outside my body.

“She is so precious!” Persephone cooed, as she came to stand next to me. The two of us had started an unlikely friendship, one I had been wary of at first but now valued more than ever. Persephone was the goddess of rejuvenation, of spring and growth returning to the earth, which was exactly what I’d needed to feel as I dealt with the unexpected pregnancy and the confusion of having our first child. I appreciated all the stories she had to tell about what having children was like back in the day. It made me feel incredibly lucky.

“Thank you,” I breathed, realizing just how far our little—well, not so little—family had come.

The guys had been angels throughout the pregnancy and the first year, and it was a trend that didn’t seem to be going anywhere. I would be forever grateful that they were my mates. Glancing over my shoulder, I saw most of my mates eating or playing with the gifts that were supposed to be for Perri. Hunter was on grill duty and was cooking up a storm, while Knox was never far from my side. Or from Perri’s for that matter. My heart was overflowing with love and appreciation, and all I wanted was to come up with some way of showing the guys how grateful I was.

“Why don’t you guys take a break for a bit? Hades and I will watch Perri, plus, it might be just what I need to persuade him to have another baby.
